Founded in 2012 and based in Amsterdam, Owlin turns news into actionable intelligence. Our international client base is growing rapidly, and more prospects are knocking on our door. In order to process all this new incoming data work we need a Data Team Lead to join our team. Instead of sitting in a cubicle in a corporate environment, working at Owlin means that you will be making an impact working in an ambitious and fast-growing team and bringing exciting products to the global financial market.
About the job:
We are looking for a qualified team leader to manage our team and provide effective guidance on both the short and long term. You will be responsible for supervising, managing and motivating team members.
As a Data Team Lead, you will empower our data team and establish an environment where the team can be effective. You will be the contact point for all team members, so your communication skills should be excellent. You should also be able to act proactively to ensure smooth team operations and effective collaboration. Ultimately, you should lead by setting a good example and engage the team to achieve goals.
The Data Analysis team is a tight-knit group of young professionals responsible for the production and maintenance of Owlin’s data infrastructure. The team stands at the very core of our products; the search queries they write, the research they conduct, and the project maintenance they do, will directly influence the results our clients see – and with that how they regard Owlin. As Data Team Lead it is your responsibility that the Data Analysts have clear goals, are motivated, and fully enabled to deliver to our clients.
You are a smart, autonomous, and proactive leader with strong adaptability – you can thrive in any context and work independently. Moreover, you can quickly understand new concepts and techniques to then explain them to others. You are gifted with excellent time management, decision making, and organizational skills and organizing things gives you energy. Maybe you have a technical background, or maybe you just have an incredibly strong passion for technology. Lastly, you are a natural motivator and effective communicator, as that is really important in this role.
The successful workings of the Data Team are in your hands – you oversee day-to-day operations and ensure quarterly goals are met. You will be rapidly trained to be the domain expert on our in-house developed query language OQL, which is why it is important that you are a quick learner. It will be your job to guide the data team through their work by setting and following through on clear team goals. As the data team is one of the core components of the organisation, setting these team goals are of highly strategic importance to the company. Additionally, you monitor team performance and report on metrics that you can use to improve the workflow, offer training to those that need it, and formulate next quarter's quarterly goals. You are also in charge of guiding support requests through all of the stages in order for issues to be resolved as soon as possible. Lastly, team harmony is under your care as well. It is key that you listen to team members’ feedback and resolve any issues or conflicts, as well as suggest and organize team building and coordinating activities.
We offer a wide array of perks to help our employees find an ideal work-to-life balance. We’re all about increasing productivity by maximizing joy. Here are some of the benefits that we have to offer:
What working at Owlin is like:
Take your bike, tram or just walk to our office in the center of Amsterdam (De Pijp). Gaze at the queue of tourists in line for the Heineken Brewery and, as you arrive, remind yourself that your office has a better view and a better terrace than the late Freddy Heineken. You determine your own starting time at Owlin, but we usually start around 9 o’clock. At 10am, we have a stand-up meeting where everybody shares their deliverables for the day, you will be leading this meeting. Throughout the day, you stay in close contact with the data analysts, the commercial team, project managers, and clients needing support. Later, you sit together with the Product Owner of the Data Team to go over the latest performance metrics and brainstorm about ways to optimize the workflow. You’ll come up with action points together and follow through autonomously.
